SECO Energy Foundation Helps Healing Hearts Farm Sprout Hope with $4,900 Grant
Hernando, FL – The SECO Energy Foundation is proud to award a $4,900 grant to Healing Hearts Farm to install an irrigation system that will preserve the farm’s horse pasture and support its equine therapy programs. Healing Hearts Farm provides meditation workshops, equine therapy, and a safe, healing environment for children in need, veterans, and individuals in recovery.
In 2024, Healing Hearts Farm hosted 200 individuals through 31 group visits. Horses are at the center of the farm’s mission, serving as partners in equine therapy that fosters self-awareness, emotional growth, and stress reduction. Maintaining a healthy pasture is essential for the horses’ diet and disposition, allowing them to thrive while helping others heal.
“With Florida’s hotter weather and limited rainfall this year, our pasture has been at serious risk,” said James Shedden, Founder and Manager of Healing Hearts Farm. “This grant allows us to install a sustainable irrigation system, ensuring our horses have access to fresh grass. Healthy, happy horses are the cornerstone of our programs, and this support from the SECO Energy Foundation will directly benefit every child, veteran, and individual in recovery who finds peace and growth here.”

The irrigation project includes 12 zones connected to the farm’s well, with timers, valves, sprinkler heads, over 1,400 feet of PVC piping, trenching, labor, and a tow-behind broadcast seed and fertilizer spreader. With this system in place, Healing Hearts Farm can grow and maintain healthy pastures that keep their horses strong for years to come.
