Feeding Children Throughout the Year: SECO Energy Foundation Supports Citrus County Blessings with $15,000 Grant

Citrus County, FL — The SECO Energy Foundation awarded a $15,000 grant to Citrus County Blessings, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding food-insecure children through its weekend and summer nutrition programs.

Citrus County Blessings ensures more than 3,000 students across 31 schools receive nourishing food each Friday and during school breaks to carry them through weekends when free or reduced-price school meals are not available. With over 93% of Citrus County’s public school students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the need is overwhelming and growing.

“There is no excuse for any child to go hungry,” said Christina Reed, Executive Director of Citrus County Blessings. “This grant allows us to continue serving thousands of local children, many of whom live in households struggling to keep up with rising costs. We’re incredibly grateful to the SECO Energy Foundation for standing with us.”

The $15,000 grant will directly support the nonprofit’s Blessings Program, which provides bags of shelf-stable food for children to take home every weekend during the school year. The effort is largely volunteer-driven, with over 400 volunteers each month packing and delivering food. During the summer, the “Feed the Kids” program adds fresh produce to the mix, ensuring students don’t go hungry when school cafeterias close.

“Citrus County Blessings is doing heroic work filling a gap many of us never see,” said Mary Pericht, SECO Energy Foundation District 5 Board Member/Secretary. “Their dedication to local children is exactly the kind of mission we’re proud to support. No child should ever have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.”
