Climate of Compassion: SECO Energy Foundation Funds Critical Upgrade at CASA with $9,780 Grant

Citrus County, FL — The SECO Energy Foundation is proud to award a $9,780 grant to the Citrus County Abuse Shelter Association (CASA) to replace an aging and inefficient heat pump system at its 32-bed safe home. This vital investment will ensure a stable, climate-controlled environment for survivors of domestic violence.

For over four decades, CASA has been a lifeline in Citrus County, providing shelter, safety, and support for victims of domestic violence. Last year alone, CASA provided more than 14,000 bed nights and served nearly 1,700 residents, including 172 individuals in its safe home. The organization’s mission to empower survivors through safety, intervention, and education is strengthened by partnerships that prioritize both comfort and care.

The safe home’s existing heat pump is 16 years old and plagued by frequent breakdowns. By replacing the outdated system with a modern, energy-efficient unit, CASA will provide residents with a more stable, comfortable, and healing environment while reducing utility costs and conserving resources.

“The rising cost of repairs and the inefficiency of the current system drain funds that could be better utilized for direct services to residents, such as counseling, financial education, and legal advocacy,” explained Rane Herzek, CEO of CASA .

The grant reflects SECO Energy Foundation’s commitment to health and human services, energy efficiency, and meaningful community partnerships” said Mary Pericht, District 5, SECO Energy Foundation Board Member.
